Materials Matter, Serving All California Nonprofits, Launches Website To Celebrate Name Change

Materials Matter, a multi-faceted nonprofit organization, today announced an official corporate name change and corresponding website: www.materialsmatter.org.  The new name was selected to represent the organizations mission more effectively: helping all nonprofit organizations gain access to low and no-cost building supplies.

Originally called the Habitat for Humanity Resource Center, the organization’s new name demonstrates its broad involvement in the philanthropic community.

“The name change has come at an ideal time for us,” said Jason McKinstry, president of Materials Matter.  “Over the past year our growth has been dramatic, and our reach to area nonprofits ever expanding.  We hope that our new name will encourage more nonprofits to take advantage our programs.”

Materials Matter is a resource center in Southern California that benefits both the surrounding community and nonprofits across the southland.

The organization’s social enterprise store, The Home Improvement Outlet in Corona, has become a fixture for do-it-yourselfers and members of the community searching for great buys on quality home improvement materials.  Products at the retail store are offered at 50 to 80 percent off retail cost, with all proceeds funding Materials Matter’s programs including the purchase of building materials for nonprofit organizations in need – further fueling the organization’s mission.

“We strive to create a circle of philanthropy that is a win-win for all involved,” added McKinstry.  “When nonprofits partner with Materials Matter to secure low and no-cost materials, precious resources are saved that can be redirected to further their missions, including building quality, affordable housing or infrastructures for social programs, allowing these important groups to serve more families in need.”

Additional services include the organization’s Community Chest Program, In Kind Donation Management Program and deconstruction and salvage services.   Materials Matter has distributed nearly $2 million worth of materials to nonprofit organizations throughout California via these programs and hopes to double that number over the next 12 months.

Materials Matter is committed to having an impact on the cycle of consumption by giving reusable building materials new life.  The executive team’s hope is to minimize construction waste going to landfills by partnering with manufacturers, builders/developers and nonprofit organizations, so that materials can be reinvested into the community where they are most needed.

The Home Improvement Outlet is currently in preparation for its upcoming annual one-day sale in July, during which the already low prices are marked down even further.
